Basics of Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

If you are planning to start an online business opportunity online, it is without a doubt that you will need to make your website very search engine friendly. Regardless of what you will do with your website or how appealing it is to the human eye, you will need (real) visitors to experience true online success.

Search engine optimization is a way by which you try to legitimately get your sites ranked high in the major search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN. Sites that are ranked high in search engines can generate fabulous organic (natural) traffic that is absolutely free.

There are search engine spiders that will eventually crawl on your websites and then your website will be indexed in all of the major search engines very quickly. The question is why is there a need for SEO?

  • Seo is absolutely risk free, to a very large extent. Imagine - What if down the road you find out that the PPC campaign you just set up the day before has its balance reduced to zero dollars? You should not be surprised. The cheap competition does it all the time. They will get your ads clicked hundreds and thousands of times each day, and you will end up paying for each and every click, for no returns (what we call click fraud), SEO eliminates (or regulates) that risk that could potentially occur for you.
  • Reliability. Not only do the search engines bring in targeted traffic because of the way in which they work (keyword searches), they also ensure success. Now, imagine this scenario, your website is ranking higher up in all (or if not most) of the major search engines out there for a specific keyword that you have targeted. The chances of you obtaining traffic from these search results are very high, as people often do not even visit page two of the results in search engines. Check with yourself for proof on this.
  • Affordability. Over the long term, SEO can result in increased cost savings. A banner or even a PPC campaign could run anywhere from $100 to $5,000 or more per month. Effective SEO services cost about $1,000 a month on average. In the majority of cases, spending at least $1,000 a month is a major expense that would not last for more than 3 to 6 months. That is not the case with expensive advertisements.

You have two choices. You could either hire an SEO Consultant or choose to do it all by yourself. Whichever you choose, you still need to know the basics of SEO in order to understand how it all works. After all, it is your website and your business opportunity, and you are the person that is solely responsible for its success online.

These are the SEO verbage and terminology that you will want to learn more about:

  • keywords
  • keyphrases
  • alt tags, meta tags and meta description
  • link building and one-way links
  • page ranking

More on the basics of SEO will follow in the near future...

Until next time,
